Kachinga
A financial-literacy app and debit card for kids: earn, save, give, and spend, with parents watching every step.
The Challenge
Parents wanted to teach their kids real money habits but had neither the time nor the confidence to do it themselves, and existing apps only solved half the problem: a digital allowance ledger, or a card, never both working together. The real-money signup also needed careful handling: early testers mistook the identity checks for a credit check and dropped off before finishing.
The Approach
We designed the complete iOS app and its paired smart debit card, built around one simple loop (earn, save, give, spend) with a chore scheduler flexible enough to split a recurring job between two kids and rotate it automatically each week. Every screen was tested in stages, from paper sketches through Adobe XD prototypes to alpha and beta families using a live TestFlight build, with real feedback (down to clarifying that identity verification wasn't a credit check) folded back in before launch.
The Results
Kachinga launched with both virtual and real-money account options plus a debit card built for kids, and has since grown to close to 20,000 users.
